Nestled within the scenic surrounds of Fish Farm House in Craighouse on the Isle of Jura, The Antlers Bakehouse and Bar is a charming cafe that offers a heartfelt taste of local hospitality and exceptional fare. This unassuming gem perfectly captures the spirit of Jura, serving up thoughtfully crafted dishes that celebrate the island’s rich culinary heritage.
The menu here strikes a brilliant balance between familiar comfort and island-inspired delicacies. Highlights include the indulgent Antlers Burger, a juicy, flavour-packed main that has quickly become a favorite among visitors, and the exquisite Pan-Fried Cod in Lemon Caper Prawn Butter, a dish bursting with fresh, zesty flavours that awaken the palate. For something deeply satisfying, try the Jura Venison Burger topped with Black Pudding & Blue Cheese—a perfect harmony of robust, gamey notes with a rich creamy tang. Vegetarians and comfort food lovers will appreciate the creamy, golden Mac’n’Cheese or the wholesome Pie of the Day, baked fresh to perfection.
The Antlers doesn’t stop at mains; their dessert selection, including a delightful Cheesecake, provides a sweet finish that lingers lovingly on the tongue. Their offerings are complemented by an impressive selection of local drinks—from the robust Jura Whisky to the island’s own Deer Island Spiced Rum, and the cleverly named Wee Beer and Big Beer, perfect for washing down the hearty fare.
What truly sets The Antlers Bakehouse and Bar apart is its warm, welcoming atmosphere. Guests repeatedly praise the friendly and attentive staff, whose smiles brighten the cozy, rustic space. The suntrap terrace beckons on a fine day, creating a serene outdoor oasis ideal for savoring their famously homemade focaccia sandwiches, which customers like Tony Cavaldoro and Martin Manley have described as among the best they've ever tasted—even rivaling those enjoyed in Italy. The sourdough cinnamon bun is another standout delight, eliciting affectionate murmurs of approval from patrons like Dr Adam.
Whether you’re popping in for a quick coffee—renowned here for its quality and served with care—or settling in for a relaxed lunch, The Antlers is a sanctuary of flavor and community. Regular visitors appreciate the carefully curated small menu that doesn’t overwhelm but delivers consistently fantastic dishes and portion sizes. We dropped into the Antler's Bakehouse for lunch, and it looks unassuming. Make sure you stop here. Try the Sausage rolls, and get a milk-coffee. We had 2 sausage rolls, a slice of cake, a slice of tart, and a flat white for £20.9. everything was exceptional. The staff were lovely, and it's a hard view to beat. Go here if you get the chance!

Had a foccacia sandwich that was as good as any id had in Italy. Bread all home baked and the terrace is quite a sun trap on a nice day.

Great coffee served here! Came here for a coffee, ended up buying lunch to takeaway. Good range of cakes, sandwiches as well as more substantial options. Lovely relaxed friendly atmosphere

(Under new management since last month.) We stopped in for lunch and coffee. Firstly the coffee was excellent, always a delightful find when options are limited. There was a good pastry/cake selection, including a gluten free option. Lunch was a small selection of pies, focaccia and a soup. Overall a lovely option, they’re hoping to extend opening hours into the evening soon too.

That was SO GOOD. The focaccia was incredible. The soup was comforting and fantastic and nourishing and rich without being too creamy. The pastrami sandwich had a good proportion of all of the ingredients and a little bit of a kick in the pickle. This was one of my favorite meals on two weeks of holiday in Scotland.

Just had another focaccia sandwich. Pastrami, pickle, aioli and some kind of salad leaf. We spent a week on Jura and I swear to ‘whatever you believe in’ that, again, was the best sandwich I’ve ever had! Chewy caramelised deliciousness!
